Frank Träger (born June 4, 1948 in Meerane ) held the Chair of Experimental Physics I at the University of Kassel from 1990 to 2013 .

Life

Frank Träger studied physics and mathematics at the University of Heidelberg from 1967 to 1973 . His doctorate followed in 1976 and his habilitation in 1981 . In 1981/82 and in the following years several stays as a visiting scientist at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San José (California) followed. Frank Träger was appointed professor in 1986 and held the Chair of Experimental Physics I at the University of Kassel from 1990 to 2013 . He dealt with the development of new methods for the controlled production of nanostructures on surfaces with the aid of variable-frequency laser light , with their linear and non-linear optical properties as well as with the ultra-short-term dynamics in metallic nanostructures. The spectrum of his work was rounded off by the mapping of DNA for the analysis of heavy ion-induced radiation damage in cancer therapy, the study of laser-induced surface reactions and the adsorption and orientation of ultra-thin films on surfaces.

Frank Träger has organized numerous conferences at home and abroad and is a member of a number of specialist societies and organizing committees for international congresses. From 1995 to 2012 he was editor-in-chief of the international journal Applied Physics B - Lasers and Optics published by Springer Verlag . He is also editor of the Springer Handbook of Lasers and Optics .

From 1995 to 1996 it was the dean of the physics department and from 2002 to 2010 the founding spokesman and organizer of the scientific center CINSaT at the University of Kassel.
