Frank Valdor (born May 27, 1937 in Hamburg ; † August 5, 2013 ) was a German arranger and television actor. In 1989 he became a Swiss citizen in the village of Walchwil am Zugersee in the canton of Zug, where he had already been living for 30 years at that time.

Life

His parents were circus artists, and so he had his first appearance in the circus in 1948, where he played the trumpet and trombone as a "boy wonder". After finishing school he went to Hamburg to study music from 1953 to 1955. He then went to the French orchestra of Fred Adison and Lionel Hampton . He toured France, Spain, North Africa and Canada.

In 1959 he went to Polydor and Philips as a unit manager and also worked as an arranger for the German radio dance orchestras of Werner Müller , Alfred home , Franz Thon , Adalbert Luczkowsky, William Greihs and Manfred Minnich. He had his first major success in 1961 with Yvonne Carré . In the same year he switched to WDR , where he arranged for Max Greger and Kurt Henkels . He also arranged for the entertainment orchestra of Swiss radio under Cedric Dumont .

But in 1963 he switched to the machine company JP Seeburg , for which he arranged 3,000 titles until 1966.

From 1967 to 1969 he worked as a freelance producer and orchestra director for Miller International and other record companies, until in 1969 he signed an exclusive contract with Miller International for the Frank Valdor orchestra . He then founded his own music publisher Hippo Music in Munich. In 1971 Hippo Music was founded in Switzerland. In the same year he received the gold record for Frank Valdor Goes Western . In 1972 he made his first live appearances with the Brazilian ballet, which brought him the silver record for Live in Rio in Germany . The following year Miller International announced that it had sold over three million LPs.

Nevertheless, he switched to RCA, where he received an exclusive contract as a producer and orchestra in 1975. Then in 1976 he toured Switzerland and in 1977 he had his first television show, Fiesta Tropical . He then founded his own music school in Hamburg, which was named Die Musikschule des Orchester Frank Valdor . He appeared on ZDF with the show Carneval in Rio . His television appearances made it possible that he then played at several state press balls. In 1982 he celebrated his 20th stage anniversary. By then he had produced 950 different records and sold around 9 million records worldwide. In February 1983 he was also able to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the orchestra and the "Brazil Tropicado Show". He then made more television, so in 1985 the program Fiesta Tropical was broadcast on Swiss television, SAT1 and ZDF. In the same year his company began to produce special records for dance schools and dance clubs. From 1989 further shows followed on television, u. a. on RTL as well as on Austrian television. In 1992 at its 30th anniversary, he had already produced 1,400 different LPs and CDs. He continued touring Europe and the television studios, for his 40th anniversary there were various anniversary programs on television and radio on his birthday on May 27, 2002.

He died on August 5, 2013 as a result of a tragic accident.

Valdor mostly played the trumpet or trombone. As a band leader, he had several chart successes in the 1960s and 1970s. He arranged new pieces of music on his albums so that they could be played non-stop at parties ( Dynamic Party Sound ).
