Frank Werneke
Frank Werneke (born April 5, 1967 in Schloß Holte ) is a German trade unionist and has been chairman of the United Services Union since September 2019 .
Life
After completing secondary school in 1983, Werneke learned the profession of packaging mechanic in a company in the paper and packaging industry in Bielefeld and then, with an interruption due to civil service, was employed in his training company in various activities as a technical employee until 1993. From 1985 to 1988 he was the district youth leader of the printing and paper industry union in East Westphalia . He was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalia regional board of the IG Druck und Papier and, after the founding of the IG Medien, its regional board . From 1993 he worked as a full-time secretary on the main board of IG Medien in Stuttgart and was elected to the executive board in 1998. There he took over the areas of union operations as well as vocational training and was responsible for the publishing , printing and paper processing sectors .
At the ver.di founding congress in March 2001 in Berlin , Werneke was elected to the federal board and at the same time head of department 8 (media, art and industry). In November 2002 he was elected by the ver.di trade union council as the successor to Gerd Nies as deputy federal chairman and confirmed in this office at the following federal congresses in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015. In addition to being head of the department, Werneke was also responsible for the areas of finance, the self-employed, asset and investment management and membership development.
Frank Werneke was proposed in 2018 by a ver.di search committee as the successor to the previous union chairman Frank Bsirske and was elected chairman of ver.di on September 24, 2019 with 92.7% of the votes.

As chairman of the union, he is responsible for the policy department, union council office, communication and marketing, controlling and multi-project management, internal auditing, federal women’s commissioner.
Frank Werneke wants to modernize the ver.di union and supplement it with network-based participation offers at local level. Members should have more opportunities for feedback and participation in trade union democracy. ver.di is starting the Digital Laboratory Non-Profit Organization 4.0 project with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft .
Werneke has been a member of the SPD since 1982.
