Frank and Louie

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Frank and Louie (born in September 1999 in Grafton , Massachusetts ; died on December 4, 2014 there ), also known as Frankenlouie, was a Janus cat . The Ragdoll cat was named the longest-lived Janus cat by the Guinness Book of Records in 2012 .

Life

Frank and Louie was born in September 1999. A breeder brought the diprosopic cat to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in Massachusetts. Frank and Louie had a brain, but two faces, mouths and noses, and three blue eyes. Only one of the two mouths could be used, the second was without a lower jaw. His esophagus was connected to the functional mouth. Of the three eyes, the middle eye was non-functional and could not blink. This gave the cat a mysterious look as it always looked like it was watching someone.

Originally it was thought that cats, like most Janus cats, had a short life expectancy and would die in a few days. Vet assistant Martha "Marty" Stevens took the cat home and bottle-fed it for three months. In fact, the cat managed to eat and grow on its own. Stevens, who continued to take care of the cat, testified about Frank and Louie that he was a frugal tomcat who was not shy and very friendly.

In 2012, the Guinness Book of Records listed Frank and Louie as the longest living Janus cat. At 12 years of age, she reached an unusually long age for a cat of this type. The admission was welcomed by experts and supported by the media. So called Leslie A. Lyons of the University of Missouri in National Geographic Frank and Louie's age "impressive".

In November 2014, his health deteriorated rapidly. A particularly aggressive form of cancer was diagnosed at the veterinary clinic . Since Stevens didn't want to let the animal suffer, she decided to have Frank and Louie put to sleep .
