List of breeds of cats |
The Ragdoll is a breed of cats bred in America in the early 1960s .
history
The ancestor of the Ragdoll is a cat named Josephine . She was an "Angora-like" outdoor woman who belonged to a neighbor of Ann Baker in California. From one litter of this cat Ann Baker got a tomcat that looked like a " Birman cat ". This hangover and not known animals Ann Baker built a line breeding and gave the Sun of her new erzüchteten race the name Ragdoll what about in German rag doll means sometimes rag doll called. Ann Baker chose the name because of the fact that her cats would hang limp when picked up - like a rag doll made from scraps of cloth. As a result of this change in behavior, there were also rumors that this breed had an altered pain behavior , which led some to test the pain behavior of the animals. For animal-friendly tests it turned out that there are no changes in pain behavior.
Due to the rigid breeding requirements of Ann Baker (she patented the name Ragdoll and levied a license fee on every animal that came from her lines), breeding with the "original Baker Ragdolls" was quite difficult. Fortunately for breeding, the Dayton ( Cattery Blossom-Time ) and Chambers ( Cattery Ragnarok ) families separated from Ann Baker at an early age and were able to continue their breeding without a license.
These two catteries essentially led Ragdoll breeding to what it is today in the traditional sector: animals in the colors seal, blue, chocolate and lilac with the drawing variants mitted, colourpoint and bicolour.
anatomy
According to the standards of the Fédération Internationale Féline , the Ragdoll is a massive, large cat with medium bone structure and muscular body. It has a strong overall appearance. The head should be of medium size, broad, tapered, and flat between the ears. She has medium-sized ears that have round tips and are set wide apart. The neck is short and strong. The legs are of medium length, the back slightly longer, which means that the back line slopes down towards the front. The tail is long, well haired and bushy. The thick coat is of medium length, has a soft, silky structure and lies close to the body.
Shades of color
The traditional colors of the Ragdoll are seal (black), which when diluted is blue, and chocolate, whose dilution is lilac. Most clubs only recognize bicolour, colourpoint and mitted as drawing variants.
Because the Ragdoll is a point cat , the young are born white and only acquire their hair color over time.
