List of cat breeds

The Bombay cat is a short-haired breed of domestic cat . It is one of the least kept cat breeds in Europe .

origin

Although recognized as a breed since 1958 , it is actually a hybrid breed . The breeding goes back to Nikki Horner , a breeder of Louisville in Kentucky , USA , which had set itself the goal of a cat with the look of a small black panther , the pleasant character traits of Burma Cat and the robustness of the American Shorthair breed . Approx. Ten years after Horner started it, the cat was as it had imagined and was presented to the Cat Fanciers Association, which awarded the recognition.

Appearance

As intended by the breeder, the Bombay cat actually has the appearance of a mini panther . It is black to the roots of the hair and has golden to copper-colored, shining eyes. It has a rather narrow body and is usually smaller than the common house cat - yet the entire body appears athletic. This impression is created especially when the cat walks and the similarity to the panther becomes amazing.

Bombay cats are divided into 3 breed variants: The original, also traditional form, the modern form and the European breed type. The modern shape shows a very short, wide snout that is somewhat reminiscent of a Persian cat. It is mainly bred in the USA, France and Switzerland. This form is also often the carrier of recessive craniofacial head defects. The traditional form is extinct except for a few specimens, but is genetically healthy. She embodies the original type.

The European Bombay cat, in turn, is characterized by an elongated snout and larger ears. This cultivated form is also often physically larger.

character

Bombay cats are lovable, cuddly to pushy, patient cats. They are ideal for keeping around the house and it is actually good for them to be around children.

breed

The Bombay Cat inherited homozygous , but should to maintain good health and avoid excessive incest all three generations alternately the origin races are cross-crossed with a, as the existing gene pool is very limited.
