List of cat breeds

The Serengeti is a breed of cats that was bred from the Bengal cat and the Oriental Shorthair .

history

The Serengeti was created in 1994 by Karen Sausman, kennel name Kingsmark, in California . The breed is still “in development” but the goal of breeding is to have a cat that will resemble the serval without crossing wildcats. Although the Bengals are descended from the wild Asian Bengal or leopard cat, the Bengals used in the breeding program for the Serengeti are so many generations away from their wild ancestors that their genetic contribution is considered to be negligible. Only the genes for the color come from their wild ancestors.

Appearance

The Serengeti are spotted cats with long legs and very large ears. Hangovers are usually bigger and heavier than cats. They can weigh up to 7 kg, cats between 3.5 kg and 5.5 kg.

The Serengeti is recognized by the TICA in black, black, silver and smoke.

The tabby , the dots, are known as "brown tabby". However, they are black or dark brown on a light brown, light beige or golden background. The silver cats have black polka dots on a silver background. In the black Serengeti, like in many non-agouti cats, the spots are sometimes visible as ghost drawings .

recognition

The Serengeti is still listed as a "provisional new breed" at TICA, but is registered in the stud book and can be exhibited.
