The Peterbald is a nude breed of cats of Russian origin.

history

The Peterbald was created in the second half of 1994 in St. Petersburg , Russia as the result of the experimental crossing of a male Don Sphynx (also known as Don Hairless, Donskoy or Donsky) named Afinogen Myth with a female oriental shorthair , world champion Radma von Jagerhov by the Russian scientist Olga S. Mironowa . The first four Peterbalds out of two matings and thus the founders of the breed were: Mandarin iz Murino, Muscat iz Murino, Nezhenka iz Murino and Nocturne iz Murino.

The Russian Cat Association Selectional Feline Federation (SFF) accepted the breed in 1996 and created the first standard. The TICA followed suit in 1997, the WCF took its time until 2003.

Today the breed is developing in the direction of the modern Orientals and Siamese , with a long snout, large, set ears, flat cheekbones and an elegant body on long legs. That is why outcrosses with these breeds and their half-long-haired relatives, the Balinese and Javanese, were supported in all standards . Since 2005, however, outcrosses with the half-long-haired breeds are no longer allowed.

description

a female Peterbald in lilac

The Peterbald has an elegant, slender, graceful and muscular physique. It has a long, narrow head with a straight profile. The eyes are almond-shaped. The muzzle is triangular. The eyes are big and wide. She has a long tail. The thin legs end in oval paws that allow her to grasp objects or open door handles. They are similar to the Oriental Shorthair. The hairlessness gene allows them to be born naked, with hair that is slightly flaked or velor-like, with hair that is brush-like or straight. With the first two "hair types" they are considered naked, as they can fall out again over time. The Peterbald is available in all colors and drawings.

temperament

The Peterbald are good-natured, affectionate, peaceful, curious, intelligent and full of energy. Their voice is not quite as loud as the Orientals and they tend to follow the owner wherever he goes. They usually live in harmony with other cats, pets, and even children.
