List of cat breeds |
Ocicat is a breed of cats. Its name comes from a wild cat , the ocelot . However, the breed is completely free of wildcat crossbreeds.
Quirks
The Ocicat combines a wild appearance with a tame house cat character. Siamese and Abyssinians , and after a few generations also American Shorthair (American Shorthair), were used for breeding .
Ocicats want the great outdoors does not want to miss, which is why an owner of this rather rare breed enable the animal to free passage or at least a sufficiently large outdoor enclosure should provide. Apparently, Ocicats don't shy away from water either. They prove themselves time and again through their friendly character, which makes them good family members. They also usually get along very well with cats of other breeds.
Diseases
The Ocicat normally has a very robust immune system and is therefore not particularly susceptible to disease. However, typical diseases such as cat flu or kidney problems are inevitable. A dull-looking coat is an indicator of disease in this breed of cats. On the other hand, if the cat is healthy, the cat hair is noticeably shiny and lies close to the body.
Guidelines
The Ocicat should be medium to large, slim and short-haired. The fur shouldn't look long. Faults in the Ocicat are, among other things, a rather clumsy appearance of its body and also a pale coat markings, this should instead be easily recognizable and drawn straight. Blue eyes or a white color that occurs apart from the eyes, nose, throat or chin lead to disqualification.
