List of cat breeds

The Exotic Shorthair Cat is a breed of domestic cat that was first bred by American cat lovers.

The breed is based on the cross between Persian cats and the American Shorthair breed. By crossing the Burmese , the breeders developed the breed further. The result was a type of cat that had the childlike appearance, body structure and calm character of the Persian cat and the easier-to-care-for coat of the American Shorthair cat.

In the USA, the breed standard has been recognized since 1966. When the FIFe standards were reorganized in 1986, Persians and Exotic Shorthair cats were merged into one class, whose breeds were broken down into coat length, coat texture and color. After initial attempts at crossbreeding with other breeds, only Persian cats are crossed today.

Despite the designation as a shorthair cat, the fur should be rather half- length and plush and not lie flat on the body. As with the Persian cats, the color variants are very diverse and are continuously updated.
