List of cat breeds

The Toyger is a domestic cat breed that is supposed to represent a small tiger (from toy tiger , toy tiger). It is currently recognized by The International Cat Association (TICA).

history

In the late 1980s, Judy Sugden began to create a cat whose color and markings match those of the tiger . To do this, she had to reinforce and change the tabby tabby so that the ligaments run down the body and are also present on the face and temples. The basis for their breeding program was the Bengal tomcat Millwood Rumpled Spotskin and the house cat Scrapmetal . In 1993 the Indian street cat Jammu Blu was added, which did not have the regular tabby stripes between its ears, but dots. From this year the Toyger was registered by the TICA in the stud book and from 2000 it was admitted to exhibitions as a new breed. Full recognition at TICA was given in 2007. So far (as of July 2009) no other organization has recognized the Toyger.

Appearance

The Toyger is a designer cat. She is a medium-sized house cat that resembles the big cats in drawing, type, confidence and movements. The head is long and wide. The ears are round and small. The eyes as well and sit deep in the skull. The chin is very strong. The nose is long and wide. The body is medium in size, long and muscular. The shoulders can interrupt the back line. The chest is broad. The legs are of medium length, the same length at the front and back. The distance from the floor to the body is the same as the height of the body. The paws are big. The tail is very long and has a rounded end. The bones are very large, the cat is never delicate. She is very muscular and athletic. Only brown tabby mackerel is recognized as a color.

future

Since it is already stated in the standard that the Toyger is a "designer cat", its future is also handled that way. By means of morphing , the breeders involved try to capture their breeding goal in pictures. This should make it easier for them to achieve this breeding goal, the tiger for the living room.
