Frankenthaler Moorwiese

The Frankenthal Moorwiese is a fen , the southeast from Frankenthal from Mühlteich to the corridor of Goldbach extends and fills the lower portion of a wide trough. It is drained by a side trickle of the Gruna . The small-scale mosaic of different plant communities of the flat and spring moors with numerous characteristic species is remarkable .

Old sign on the moor meadow.

The discovery of the rare dioecious sedge ( Carex dioica ) and the equally endangered marsh sitter ( Epipactis palustris ) led to the declaration of the bog as a natural monument in 1950 . The circular nature conservation guide published two years later named eleven other types of sedges and four orchids for the Frankenthaler Moorwiese.

1976 were still calculated in the following ways: fleagrass , narrow and Broad cotton grass , forest lousewort , twayblade , Cranberry , Parnassus and Small valerian . Knotweed spawn , fever clover , ostrich fever and blood-eye were found in the moorland gullies , deep depressions filled with water . Broad-leaved orchid , wire sedge , pennywort and creeping willow stood on the wet and swampy meadows. Both the dioecious sedge and the marsh sitter, however, were no longer observed.

Today the moor is part of the fauna-flora-habitat area Obere Wesenitz and tributaries and is located in the West Lusatia landscape protection area ( CDDA code 20914), which was established in 1974.
