Frankfurt platform

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frankfurter Gleis is an old road that led from Nuremberg via Dresden to Frankfurt (Oder) .

history

The Frankenstrasse, which was particularly used by the Nuremberg residents, was a historic land transport route that emerged long before the modern highways . It was a branch of the Via Imperii , which led from Rome via Nuremberg to Stettin . The Frankfurt track began near the imperial city of Nuremberg and led via Hof (Saale) through the Vogtland , the Ore Mountains and Dresden to the merchant settlement of Frankfurt (Oder). In Königsbrück , 18 kilometers west of Kamenz , the Frankfurt track crossed the Via Regia , which is why a customs office was established there at the beginning of the 13th century, from which the town of Königsbrück developed.

Pilgrimage

Today, as in historical times, pilgrimage routes run on the Frankfurt platform , with the aim of the tomb of the apostle James in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia ( Spain ). Between Bautzen and Hof (Saale) the section of the Frankfurt track is known as the Saxon Way of St. James on Frankenstraße . In Hof you can continue on the Upper Franconian Way of St. James to Nuremberg.
