Franklin is the county capital and seat of the county seat of Robertson County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located on US Highway 79 , near the county center in west Texas, and has a total area of 2.4 km 2 with no significant body of water.
history
The place was founded as Morgan in 1872 . In 1879 the county seat was moved from Calvert to Morgan. When the first post office was due to open, the name was rejected as there was already another Morgan and the residents renamed the place Franklin.
Demographics
According to the 2000 census, 1,470 people in 533 households and 351 families lived here. The population density was 616.9 people per km 2 . The racial the population was composed of 75.51% White, 19.52% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, and 2.93% other ethnic groups. About 1.36% were mixed race and 8.84% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 533 households, 36.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 44.5% of these were married couples living together. 17.8% were single mothers and 34.0% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were single households and there were people living in 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.20.
29.0% of the population were under 18 years old, 6.9% 18 to 24, 25.0% 25 to 44, 18.4% 45 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 85.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 80.6 men.
The median income for a household in the 27,400 USD , and the median income for a family 33,889 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,818 versus $ 20,441 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,490. 18.9% of the population and 15.4% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 23.5% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 25.0% were 65 or older.
