Friendswood is a city in Galveston County and Harris County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is 45 km northwest of Galveston and 32 km south of Houston in northwest Galveston County and extends into Harris County. In the southeast the city is about 40 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of 54.4 km² without any significant water surface.
history
The city was named after the official name Religious Society of Friends of the Quakers when they moved from Kansas to Texas.

According to the 2000 census, 29,037 people lived here in 10,107 households and 8,085 families. The population density was 533.4 inhabitants per km². The racial the population was composed of 90.09% White, 2.70% African American, 0.40% Native American, 2.39% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, and 2.79% other ethnic groups. About 1.63% were mixed race and 8.79% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 10,107 households, 43.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 68.5% of them were married couples living together. 8.7% were single mothers and 20.0% were non-families. 17.0% of all households were single households and 6.3% had people living in them who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.23.
30.0% of the population were under 18 years old, 6.2% 18 to 24, 29.4% 25 to 44, 25.7% 45 to 64, and 8.6% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 93.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 90.4 men.
