Forney is a city in Kaufman County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located on US Highway 80 , the Missouri Pacific Railroad , Buffalo Creek (Texas) and Mustang Creek , 38 km east of Dallas in the northwest of the county, in central northeast Texas, is about 100 km north of Oklahoma and has a total area of 20.3 km² without any significant water surface.
history
The place was founded as Brooklyn in 1870 . When a post office was to be opened in 1873, the post office declined the name because there was already a place of the same name in Shelby County . At the end of the year, residents renamed the place Forney, after John Wien Forney , a Pennsylvania politician and journalist and board member of the Texas and Pacific Railway .
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 5,588 people in 1,920 households and 1,522 families lived here. The population density was 275.2 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 83.72% White, 7.39% African American, 0.55% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, and 6.30% other ethnic groups. About 1.70% were mixed race and 9.61% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,920 households, 46.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.0% of these were married couples living together. 13.1% were single mothers and 20.7% were non-families. 17.7% of all households were single households and 6.9% had people living there who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.29 people.
32.1% of the population were under 18 years old, 7.8% 18 to 24, 33.5% 25 to 44, 18.6% 45 to 64, and 8.0% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 93.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 91.6 men.
The median income for a household in the 52,014 USD , and the median income for a family 58,295 USD. Males had a median income of $ 34,886 versus $ 30,841 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,217. 5.3% of the population and 3.6% of families are below the poverty line. 3.2% of these were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 13.1% were 65 or older.
