Franklin B. Zimmerman

Franklin Bershir Zimmerman (* 1923 ) is an American musicologist and conductor . He has worked and published in particular in the field of baroque music, primarily through the composer Henry Purcell . Zimmerman compiled a complete inventory of Purcell's works , which is considered to be one of the most crucial contributions to Purcell research ( one of the most crucial contributions to Purcell research ). Each work in the directory has a Z number derived from its surname.

Life

Zimmerman was born in Wauneta, Kansas and graduated from the University of Southern California with a Ph.D. PhD. He was Professor of Music at Dartmouth College (1964–1967), the University of Kentucky (1967–1968) and the University of Pennsylvania from 1968 until his retirement. In 1968 he founded the Pennsylvania Pro Musica ensemble .
