Franko Luin (also: Franco Luin , born April 6, 1941 in Trieste , Italy , † September 15, 2005 in Tyresö , Sweden ) was a media and font designer in Sweden. Many of his typefaces have become modern classics.

biography

Luin was born in Italy to Slovenian parents. In 1961, at the age of 20, he settled in Sweden. He began to develop an interest in design, print, typography and graphics. In 1967 he graduated from Grafiska Institutet in Stockholm . For the next twenty years he worked as a media designer at Ericsson in Tyresö, in 1989 he went freelance and began to design fonts in his newly founded company "Omnibus Typografi" in addition to graphic work. For a while he taught web typography at the Berghs School of Communication in Stockholm. In Slovenia he is known as the editor of hundreds of Slovenian literary classics in freely accessible digital form.

He has been interested in Esperanto since he was 15 and was active in the Swedish Esperanto Federation for many years, including as chairman and editor of the members' magazine La Espero . He also named a script after the planned language .

He belonged to the Slovenian minority in Italy.
