Frans De Beul (born June 22, 1849 in Dendermonde , † April 13, 1919 in Schaarbeek ) was a Belgian animal and genre painter.

He was the son of Edouard Conrad De Beul (* 1815) and Florentine Goethals (* 1821).

De Beul studied painting at the Art Academy of Dendermonde under Ferdinand Willaert and continued his studies at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles .

He was friends with the French animal painter Charles Emile Jacque , a representative of the Barbizon School, who influenced his work. Frans De Beul painted the animals living on the farms as well as cheerful genre scenes from the lives of his contemporaries. His pictures were recognized by the general public. He repeated the particularly successful motifs several times with small variations.

In 1888 he took a trip through Russia , which led to paintings with Russian themes.

He regularly participated in art salons in cities in Belgium, but also exhibited at international art events in Berlin , Chicago , Dresden , London , New York , Munich , Paris and San Francisco .

In 1890 he had a two-man exhibition with Herman Richir in the Cercle Artistique et Littéraire in Brussels.

He married Jeanne Callewaert, with whom he had two children: the later painter Armand De Beul (* 1874) and the later sculptor Oscar De Beul. He was the brother of the painter Henri De Beul (1845–1900).
