Frans Fischer
Frans Fischer (* 1875 ; † 1949 ) was a Belgian politician for the Belgian Workers' Party (BWP) .
biography
Fischer was originally a journalist . Later he was councilor for public works in the municipality of Schaerbeek / Schaarbeek and earned merit by building numerous new schools. In addition, he was elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies and represented the constituency of Brussels-Halle-Vilvoorde . He was also temporarily chairman of the BWP in Brussels and was a freemason in a grand lodge .
After the occupation of Belgium by the Wehrmacht , he was arrested in the summer of 1941 for his activities as a politician in the Labor Party and as a Freemason and interned in Fort Breendonk , a Gestapo reception camp. However, on September 9, 1941, he was released after the Grand Master of the Masonic Grand Lodge Guillaume de Hemricourt de Grunne wrote a letter of protest to the then Belgian ambassador to the German Empire , Jacques Davignon . In 1944 he wrote the autobiographical work De Hel van Breendonk about his stay and his experiences in Fort Breendonk .
For his political services he was awarded the honorary title of Minister of State on September 3, 1945 , although he was never a minister or president of a chamber of parliament. In addition, the technical community school of Schaarbeek was named after him.
