Apostolic School

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As Apostolic school one is boarding the Congregation of the Legionaries of Christ referred. In these religious schools, underage boys who want to become priests are prepared for the Abitur . They are instructed within the Order and strengthened in their calling as priests. Worldwide there are (as of August 2010) 20 Apostolic Schools.

This type of school follows the long tradition of the "small seminars", which are also known as seminars for boys . As early as the Council of Trent (1545–1563) it was decided that "every cathedral, metropolitan or even higher church [...] a certain number of boys from the city and the diocese [...] in a college [...] ...] to take care of, to educate religiously and to educate in the ecclesiastical sciences. " (Sess. XXIII c. 18) In contrast to the Apostolic Schools, the small seminaries are diocesan institutions .

Sexual abuse

Main article : Sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church: Legionaries of Christ

The sexual abuse of underage boys in several apostolic schools and by various members of the order, mostly by lay people (everyone working there, except for clergy) is now considered to be proven. For decades there have been allegations of abuse against the founder of the congregation , Marcial Maciel Degollado, who allegedly abused minors in schools. These cases have now been confirmed by the Legionaries and the Holy See. The founder is said to have molested 20 underage boys in apostolic schools. Vatican Radio also reports that boys received absolution from him after the sexual acts committed together in confession . The Roman Curia positions itself clearly: “ The extremely grave and objectively immoral behavior of Fr. Maciel, which has been corroborated by incontrovertible evidence, sometimes consists in real crimes and reveals an unscrupulous life with no real religious meaning. "

It has now also been revealed that other members of the Order abuse students in some Apostolic Schools. Abuse in schools in Chile, Italy, Spain and the USA is well known.
