The St. Angela Gymnasium is a state-recognized, free Catholic school sponsored by the Archdiocese of Cologne . The school is located in Bad Münstereifel , where it and the municipal St. Michael-Gymnasium are both local schools. The St. Angela Gymnasium is also open to students of other denominations and provides the same qualifications that every other gymnasium offers.

School history

The school has over 400 years of educational tradition. In 1594, Margaretha Lynnerie, a citizen of Münstereifel, founded an institute for the education of girls, thus laying the foundation for a private educational institution that survived all the vicissitudes of history. Sisters of the Ursuline Order, which was also founded in the 16th century by Angela Merici and spread through numerous monasteries , later took over the foundation and maintained the education for girls until 1969, when it was known as the "Neusprachliches St. Angela-Gymnasium für Girls' working school was taken over by the Archdiocese of Cologne. With this takeover, the co-education of the boarding school began , with which the St. Angela boarding school of the Ursulines and the archbishop's boarding school for boys, Collegium Josephinum (Konvikt; a place of sexual abuse, physical and psychological violence) in Bad Münstereifel, which had also been in existence since 1856, began whose merger in 1995 and closure in 1997 worked together.

In September 1977, the new school building of the "Archbishop's St. Angela High School for Boys and Girls" was officially inaugurated. In January 2005 the annex and the new chapel were inaugurated by Cardinal Joachim Meisner .

Differentiated intermediate and advanced levels

In addition to the option of a third foreign language, the intermediate level also offers courses, some of which are interdisciplinary, from the social sciences and mathematics and natural sciences (including computer science and nutrition).

In the upper level, in addition to the natural sciences, the humanities and social sciences form a clear focus in the broad canon of basic and advanced courses.

In the linguistic-literary-artistic area, literature can also be taken instead of art or music.

School partnerships

The school maintains partnerships and runs student exchange programs with schools in France ( Fougères , Bretagne ) and the Czech Republic ( Prague ).

Sponsorship and alumni association

The school's work is supported by the school's sponsorship association and the joint alumni association "Verein Alter Münstereifeler" (VAMÜ) of the two high schools in Bad Münstereifel.

Transport links

There is a transport connection through the Erft Valley Railway (Bad Münstereifel - Euskirchen - Bonn), the public bus network and the school's own school transport in the Mechernich area.
