history

The school was founded on July 16, 1852 by Mère Berndine Werotte. On this day, Mother Bernadine and Mother Johana moved into the local rectory, where they taught 128 pupils in a confined space until their monastery was completed. A school contract was signed in 1864 between the Hersel school board and the superior of the monastery. School operation and sponsorship were - with interruptions z. B. by wars such as from 1942 to 1945 - taken over by the order until 2001. Then the Archdiocese of Cologne became the sponsor of the school. Since April 1, 1963, not only a girls 'grammar school but also a girls' secondary school has been run under the common name of the Ursulinenschule Hersel.
