history

The Christophorus School was founded in 1992 by Hans-Joachim Gardyan on behalf of the CJD, with the staff initially consisting of almost twenty teachers, seven of whom, like Gardyan himself , had taught at the CJD Braunschweig . The school started in 1992 with a total of 360 students from grades 5–8 of the Realschule and grades 5–11 of the grammar school. The first classroom building was the building of the predecessor school Petersberggymnasium (today: A building with AK wing) , which was built from 1969 to 1971 according to a design by the architect Ernst van Dorp . Later, as the number of pupils increased, the premises of the Municipal Realschule am Petersberg, which closed in 1995 after the expiry, were added (today: B-building with BF wing), which had formed a school center with the Petersberggymnasium. Before the school was founded, there was a heated dispute in the City Council of Königswinter about the future of the vacant school building, which delayed the school start originally planned for 1991 by a year. As an alternative, the establishment of an (urban) comprehensive school was planned. In 1995 the Christophorus School had the first graduation class and the first graduation class of the Realschule. In 2000 the boarding school (with outdoor living groups and a neighboring building approx. 70 places) was opened. Since 2004, the Christophorusschule organized the all-day care (OGS) on the adjacent Johann Lemmerz - primary school .

In September 2005, with the support of the Deutsche Telekom Foundation and its chairman Klaus Kinkel, a junior engineering academy was started in the differentiation area of the grammar school , which modified the Baden-Württemberg student engineering academy for the intermediate level. In January 2006, the creative house , financed largely from funds from the Bonn-Berlin Compensation , was opened and is also available to the other schools in the region. Hans-Joachim Gardyan headed the school from 1992 to 2006 as the youth village and school director. His successors were Reinhard Koglin (overall management), Johannes Heide (school management high school, † 2014, successor is Wilhelm Meyer) and Jörg Möller (school management high school, until 2009, successor was Andreas Breitenstein until 2019, since then Martin Krude) in August 2006. Since the 2009/2010 school year, lessons have been taught with 60-minute lessons and extended breaks. These extended breaks also enabled the building to be moved to the rooms that were rented until March 2015 in the Koenigswinter employee center , 500 meters away , where part of the classes for the Abitur class took place. In November 2009 the self-study center was opened, a building in the style of the creative house, into which the extended library was relocated. In July 2010, construction began on the enlarged cafeteria in the area between the auditorium and the tram stop, which went into operation at the beginning of the 2011/2012 school year. Since August 1, 2012, the Rauschendorf kindergarten has been part of the CJD Königswinter. In the summer of 2017, an extension (D building) with four classrooms was opened. The Christophorus School in Königswinter has been a MINT-EC school since the end of 2017 .

The Christophorus School is located near the old town of Königswinter, about 200 meters from the Rhine . Immediately adjacent are the boarding school, the Church of Mary, Queen of Peace , an outdoor sports field, the sports hall and the Königswinterer Paul Lemmerz indoor pool. The school has an auditorium with around 700 seats, which is used for school events and has a central position within the school complex thanks to its characteristic roof shape and its location in the middle of the higher courtyard .

In June 2005, the directly adjacent Longenburg stop of the Siebengebirgsbahn ( tram line 66 ) was redesigned by students from various art classes and courses. The Stadtwerke Bonn have subsequently extended the name of the station since the end of 2005 to "Longenburg - CJD Königswinter".

Japanese is also taught as a subject in high school and can be chosen as a high school graduation subject.
