The Städtische Gymnasium am Oelberg is a school in Königswinter in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It is located in the Oberpleis district near the border with Rhineland-Palatinate . The grammar school has around 1,220 students who are looked after by around 80 teachers. There are student exchange projects with the schools in the twin cities of Krakow (Poland) and Cognac ( France ). The name is derived from the Mount of Olives , the highest mountain in the Siebengebirge .

history

The school opened in 1969. Until the 1960s, the way to the next grammar school from what was then Oberpleis and the surrounding villages was long and difficult. For this reason, in 1966 parents came together to form an initiative for a secondary school complex in Oberpleis. Construction of the school began in 1968. Until 1971 the school was run as a branch of the Siegburger Anno-Gymnasium, after which it was run as an independent school. Oberpleis has been a district of Königswinter since 1969. Friedrich Krautschneider was the headmaster until spring 2013.
