The Archbishop's Irmgardis Gymnasium Cologne was founded in 1927 as a girls' school in Schillerstrasse in Cologne-Bayenthal ; The school is named after St. Irmgard von Süchteln .

The school was run by nuns until 1980 and has been sponsored by the Archdiocese of Cologne ever since . In 1983 coeducation was introduced and in 1991 the Abitur class consisted exclusively of girls for the last time.

The high school has a cafeteria, three gyms, a self-study center and a tape room, three computer rooms and an arbitration room.

On February 1, 2016, Jacqueline Friker succeeded her predecessor Angelika Ottersbach, who had directed the school since 2000, as headmistress.

The Irmgardis-Gymnasium organizes a "hunger march" every two years to raise money for needy children in India and the Third World .

In addition, a German-Belgian (with Brussels ), a German-Polish (with Warsaw ), a German-Chinese (with Shanghai ) and a German-American student exchange take place every year.
