The school Rodenkirchen was founded in 1965 in what is now the Cologne district of Rodenkirchen founded.
overview
At the Rodenkirchen grammar school, 1,320 students are taught by 106 teachers. The school has its own cafeteria, a gym, a self-study center, an auditorium, two computer rooms and a newly built cafeteria.
In the school there is a choice of French and Latin in the 6th level, and Spanish in the 8th level. Differentiation is possible in the 8th level in the following courses: Latin (only for French), computer science, Spanish, art, politics and economics, natural sciences. Spanish can also be newly chosen in the EF. Catholic and Protestant religious instruction and alternative practical philosophy are offered.
activities
The school has regular exchanges with partner schools in Kraków , Poitiers , Volgograd and, more recently, with Centennial High School in Minnesota . Journeys to Japan take place regularly as part of the Japanisch AG. In addition, sponsored runs take place every two years , through which self-help projects in Campoy and Malawi are supported.
The school is also particularly active in promoting sport for its students. Worth mentioning here is the high school's rowing team , which is currently training under the direction of Mr. Specks on Lake Otto Maigler and has been supported by the Cologne Rowing Society since the high school was founded in 1891 .
The school also has a choir ( GyRoVOICES ), a brass band ( GyRoBRASS ) and two orchestras ( YoungCLASSICS , GyRoCLASSICS ). The choir and the brass band perform every year at the end of November in front of the Bläck Fööss in the school auditorium. There is a theater group, a biology and gardening group and a light and sound group. From 2015 to 2017 there was a refugee project at the Rodenkirchen high school. In addition, the Rodenkirchen grammar school takes part in the Cologne school un Veedelszöch in the Cologne carnival .
There is a school newspaper ( GyRoLife ), which is offered four times a year on the school website for download as a PDF.
In the 8th grade, all students go skiing with their classes on the Schwandalpe in Kleinwalsertal (Austria) (January / February / March).
Since 2011 there have been IT training days for grades 5-9 on Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Photoshop and social networks. 53 laptops are available for this, donated to the school by Microsoft, Intel and Acer. The trainings are led by teachers and parents.
Well-known former students
The social democratic politician Katarina Barley , the former member of the Bundestag Martin Dörmann and the two-time high jump Olympic champion Ulrike Nasse-Meyfarth were students at the Rodenkirchen grammar school.
