Bettina Rockenbach

Bettina Rockenbach (born October 26, 1963 in Cologne ) is a German economist .

Life

Rockenbach studied mathematics , economics and computer science at the University of Bonn from 1982 to 1988 and graduated with a diploma in mathematics. From 1988 to 1999 she worked as an assistant to the Nobel Prize winner Reinhard Selten at the University of Bonn. First from 1988 to 1993 as a research assistant and head of the laboratory for experimental economic research in Bonn. In 1992 and 1993 she was at the California Institute of Technology worked before in 1993 with a thesis on Two-Person Bargaining Experiments with Incomplete Information in Economics under rare for Dr. rer. pole. received his doctorate. After completing her doctorate, she became a research assistant , with Rockenbach on leave from the assistant position with Prof. Dr. Feilmeier & Junker worked in Munich . Her habilitation , which she completed in 1999 with a thesis on Experimental and Theoretical Contributions to Decision Making in Financial Asset Markets , also took place with Reinhard Selten in Bonn.

From 1999 to 2000 Rockenbach was visiting professor at the CentER for Economic Research at Tilburg University. In 2000, she followed a call to the chair of microeconomics, in particular industrial economics at the State School of the University of Erfurt . There she set up the Laboratory for Experimental Economic Research (elab) and took over its management until 2011. She also set up the interdisciplinary Center for Empirical Research in Economics and Behavioral Sciences (CEREB) , which she headed until 2008. Rockenbach held various positions in academic self-administration at the University of Erfurt. From 2006 to 2008 she was dean of the Faculty of Political Science and from 2008 to 2011 Vice President for Research and Young Academics.

In 2011 Rockenbach accepted the chair for experimental economics and behavioral research at the University of Cologne . Since October 2012 she has been Dean of Research at the WiSo Faculty. She has been Vice Rector for Research at the University of Cologne since 2015 .

Rockenbach conducts research in the areas of game theory and behavioral economics . One focus of her often interdisciplinary research is the design of institutions to promote cooperation in social dilemma situations. Her research is published in leading economic journals as well as in renowned interdisciplinary journals such as Science and Nature .

Professional activities and memberships

From 2004 to 2008 Rockenbach was European Vice-President of the Economic Science Association (ESA). From 2010 to 2011 she was chairman of the social science committee and member of the extended board of directors of the Verein für Socialpolitik . Rockenbach has been an affiliate member of the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods Bonn since 2009 and has been a member of the scientific advisory board of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy since 2012 . In 2014 she was elected to the Senate of the German Research Foundation .
