Frans G. Bengtsson

Frans Gunnar Bengtsson (born October 4, 1894 in Tossjö near Ängelholm , Skåne , † December 19, 1954 in Ribbingsfors , Västergötland ) was a Swedish author and chess player .

Life

After studying at Lund University , he received his master's degree there in 1920. In 1930 he received his doctorate in philosophy . He wrote first lyrical texts, then historical essay volumes. He is also the author of the Viking novel The Adventures of the Röde Orm , which he wrote between 1941 and 1945 and which originally appeared in 2 volumes. This novel had numerous editions in Germany and has been translated into many languages.

Chess player

Bengtsson was one of the strongest chess players in Sweden at that time. He played on the front boards of the Skånes Schackförbund team. He described games that opened with e2 – e4 as “real chess”.

Stamp

In October 1994 a Swedish postage stamp with the picture of Bengtsson appeared.
