František Horáček

František Horáček (born August 29, 1891 in Sezemice nad Loučnou ; † September 29, 1941 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak soldier, legionnaire , brigadier general in the Czechoslovak army and as a leading member of the resistance group Obrana národa a personality of the Czechoslovak resistance 1939-1945 against the National socialism .

Life

After the higher state secondary school in Pardubice (1903 to 1911) Horáček worked as an external teacher and at the same time attended a course for teachers in Prague (1911 to 1912). On August 23, 1912, he was drafted and attended a school for reserve officers in Innsbruck. In the summer of 1914 he was transferred to the Russian Eastern Front, but had to be treated in Vienna for injury ; afterwards he fought on the Romanian front, where he was captured in September 1916. He enlisted in the Czechoslovak legions , was transferred to France and, after completing another officer course, took part in several battles ( Mont Cornillet , Vouziers , Poix-Terron, etc.). After returning to Czechoslovakia, he was briefly deployed in the Olsa area in the Polish-Czechoslovak border war.

From 1919 Horáček worked as a lieutenant in the Ministry of Defense, then in the heavy artillery as a commander in various functions, from 1927 as a regimental commander among others in Bratislava, Jihlava and Brno. After 1935 he worked briefly as a professor of artillery tactics at the Vysoká škola válečná (War College). At the end of 1936 he commanded the 6th Artillery Field Brigade, and in June 1937 he was promoted to Brigadier General. During the mobilization in September 1938, he commanded the 8th Infantry Artillery Division.

After the proclamation of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia , Horáček refused to go into exile and, as a close collaborator of General Hugo Vojta , made contact with the predominantly military resistance organization Obrana národa in the spring of 1939 . He worked as a district commander for the area Prague VII. To XI. From the end of 1940 he had to go underground. Nevertheless, he was arrested during the first large wave of arrests on September 8, 1941 and imprisoned in Prague's Ruzyně prison. After the martial law was declared in the Protectorate, he was executed on September 29, 1941.

On October 26, 1946, František Horáček was promoted to the rank of division general in memoriam .
