Franz-Adolf Gehlhaar

Franz-Adolf Gehlhaar (born February 16, 1937 in Königsberg , † February 14, 2016 in Bad Soden am Taunus ) was a German teacher and local politician .

Live and act

Gehlhaar was the educational director of the Freiherr-vom-Stein comprehensive school in Vockenhausen , a district of Eppstein . On June 3, 1983, he was victim of the gunman Karel Charva (1948–1983) in the Eppstein rampage . Gehlhaar was teaching English in 6th grade when Charva entered the classroom around 10:45 am and shot him. The shot missed him. Gehlhaar went up to the shooter and asked him not to shoot the children but to talk to him. Charva then opened fire on goat hair and hit him seven times in the stomach, face and left arm. When Gehlhaar was badly injured on the ground, Charva began to shoot the children. In this rampage, the students Stephanie Hermann (12 years), Javier Martinez (11 years), Gabriele Siebert (12 years), the rector Hans-Peter Schmitt (36 years) and the policeman Gisbert Beck (44 years) were shot by the gunman who ultimately shot himself.

After the fact, Gehlhaar was unable to return to school.

Local politics

Gehlhaar had been a member of the SPD since 1969 and for a long time chairman of his party in the municipal council of Liederbach am Taunus , in which he was involved from 1972 to 1989. He also exercised the local arbitration office .
