from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Franz Tumler Literature Prize for contemporary German-language debut novels is a European literary prize that is awarded every second year by the South Tyrolean provincial government together with the municipality of Laas , for the first time in 2007. The prize named after the South Tyrolean writer Franz Tumler is endowed with 8,000 euros . The winner of the audience award, on the other hand, is invited to spend a week writing in the Vinschgau .

Organized and brought into being by the “Circle of South Tyrolean Authors” in the South Tyrolean Artists' Association and by the Laas Education Committee, the aim of this award is “not only to honor the work of the novelist, essayist and poet who died in Berlin in 1998, but also new literature in German Promote language. Hence the decision to limit the price to debut novels ” . (Quote from the brochure for the 1st award ceremony 2007)

An international jury of experts from South Tyrol, Germany, Austria and Switzerland names five finalists who will read from their debut novels in front of the jury and the audience in a one-day live event in Laas. The jurors then select the winner from among the finalists.
