Life

Franz Amberger was a member of the Social Democratic Workers' Party of Austria (SDAÖ) from 1915 to 1933, but became a member of the KPÖ before the February fights in 1934 . In 1939/1940 he was involved in the rebuilding of the illegal KPÖ organization in Braunau and finally took over the management of the seven to eight-member group. The Braunauer group worked closely with the KPÖ group in Salzburg. When this was uncovered, members of the group in Braunau were also exposed. At the end of April 1942, Franz Amberger was arrested by the Gestapo in Linz, and his older brother Jakob was also arrested. On October 28, 1942, the trial took place before the People's Court , 2nd Senate in Salzburg. The two brothers were found guilty of preparing communist high treason until February 1942. Jakob Amberger was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Since Franz Amberger held a position as a functionary, he was sentenced to death by guillotine. The judgment was carried out on February 12, 1943 in Munich-Stadelheim . A total of 1,035 men and women were executed in this detention center during the Nazi regime .

A street in Braunau-Laab was named after the resistance fighter, and there is also a stumbling block for him in Braunau am Inn.
