Franz Anton Kuen

Franz Anton Kuen (born August 7, 1679 in Bregenz , † August 17, 1742 in Weingarten (Württemberg) ) was an Austrian sculptor of the radical and dynamic Baroque .

Life

Kuen was in the third generation of a well-known artist family from Hohenegg in what was then Vorarlberg and the son of the Bregenz church architect Johann Georg Kuen (1642-1691).

He was one of the most important personalities of baroque art in Bohemia and in the Lake Constance area . The most important stations in Bohemia were:

  • 1713–1716 in the Osek Monastery (Ossegg Monastery) with the decoration of the portal of the monastery church, here especially the statues of the four evangelists, who are counted among his most important works
  • 1716–1718 in Veltrusy Castle with the sculptures of the Rosselenker and dog handlers on the castle stairs, see [1]
  • around 1718 in the Kladruby Monastery (Kladrau Monastery) with the sculptures "Mucius Scaevola" and "Herakles" on the New Convent building, see [2]

Honors

The Kuenstrasse in Weingarten (Württemberg) is named after Franz Anton Kuen .
