Franz Anton Vaßen

Franz Anton Vaßen (born February 2, 1799 in Aldenhoven , † February 9, 1891 in Düren) was pastor and dean in Düren .

Vaßen studied at the University of Münster . From 1820 he attended the seminary in Cologne . He was ordained a priest on September 8, 1822. After that, he was a teacher at the Stiftisches Gymnasium in Düren for eight years . In 1830 he became a pastor in Zons . On March 10, 1842, Vaßen was appointed senior pastor at the Anna Church. As honorary canon of the collegiate collegiate chapter of Aachen and senior of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Cologne , Vaßen celebrated the 60th anniversary of the priesthood in September 1882, known as the diamond jubilee . On this occasion the foundation stone for the memorial column of St. Mother Anna laid at the Altenteich .

Vaßen has made a particular contribution to the poor. In 1854 he founded the orphanage in what is now Waisenhausstrasse .

Honors

  • On the occasion of his jubilee as a priest, the city council decided on August 25, 1882 to make him the first honorary citizen of the city.
  • On June 12, 1914, the city council decided to move through the Schoenen'sche area from Friedhofstr. (today Dr.-Kotthaus-Str.) to name the street leading to Hohenzollernstrasse after him (Dechant-Vaßen-Str.).
