Franz Arndt (born August 6, 1848 in Sieversdorf , † July 19, 1917 in Rostock ) was a German Protestant theologian and pastor .

Life

Arndt, the son of a pastor, attended high schools in Ruppin , Berlin and Stendal . In 1869 he began his studies in Jena and Berlin . In 1875 he became assistant preacher and the following year pastor in the parish in Volmarstein . After three years of preparatory work, Franz Arndt acquired the Bethanien house from carpenter Bönner in 1882, which he converted into a home for the sick and the elderly. In 1887 he founded a women's home and in 1895 a children's school for children aged three to six.

Arndt also planned to build a home for the handicapped by visiting various homes for the handicapped and doing studies. Finally, in 1904, the Johanna-Helenen-Heim was inaugurated. In 1910 Franz Arndt took part in the first German congress for cripple welfare , which took place in Berlin. The Hermann-Luisen-Haus , an institution intended to train cripples to become craftsmen , opened in 1911. In 1917, Arndt died on a trip.
