Franz J. Beranek
Franz Josef Beranek (born August 8, 1902 in Lundenburg , South Moravia , † August 11, 1967 in Gießen ) was a German linguist .
Life
Franz Beranek devoted himself to his scientific work at the German Charles University in Prague and from 1960 at the University of Gießen to researching German dialects with a focus on South Moravia . During his time in Prague Beranek became a member of the Association of German Students Saxonia and in the 1960s also a member of the Association of German Students Gießen . His life's work was working on a Sudeten German dictionary .
Beranek was a member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) and the Sturmabteilung (SA). After the Second World War he tried unsuccessfully to gain international recognition in one of his research fields, Yiddish studies , but was rejected by the YIVO and its chairman Max Weinreich because of his National Socialist commitment .
