Franz Burger (philologist)
Franz Xaver Burger (born May 24, 1880 in Apfeltrach ; † April 4, 1933 ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher.
Burger studied classical philology at the University of Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1904 with a thesis on the relationship between Minucius Felix and the philosopher Seneca . From 1905 to 1908 he was a research assistant at the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae and wrote articles for volumes 1 to 4. Afterwards he worked as a high school teacher at the Old Realgymnasium in Munich. There was Ernst Heimeran his pupil, he brought ancient texts on the idea of producing a series of bilingual editions, the Tuskulum books (later collection Tusculum ). Burger himself published the first volume with odes and epodes of Horace in 1923.
