Hans Poeschel (philologist)

Hans Poeschel (born March 8, 1882 in Kitzingen , † December 24, 1948 in Munich ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher and brother of Erwin Poeschel .

After attending grammar school in Kempten until his Abitur in 1900, he studied classical philology at the University of Munich , where he received his doctorate on March 20, 1905. From 1905 to 1907 he was a research assistant at the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae and wrote articles for volumes 2 to 4. Then he worked as a grammar school teacher in Munich, initially at the Old Realgymnasium , and with a ministerial resolution of June 30, 1913 also at the Maximiliansgymnasium with the subjects Latin and Greek , German and shorthand. Called up for army service in February 1917, he was unable to do so because of a foot disease. His students included u. a. Ernst Heimeranand Franz Josef Strauss . In addition to his school activities, he also worked as an art and literary critic. From 1946 until his death he gave the literary magazine Münchner Tagebuch. Cultural weekly papers , which were discontinued in 1949.
