Life

Burkhard's family came from Eppstein im Taunus . During his studies in Darmstadt he became a member of a student association.

Since 1905 Burkhard has been advising the owner of the Eppsteiner castle ruins , Prince Christian-Ernst zu Stolberg-Wernigerode , on questions of securing and maintaining the structure. In 1907 he was appointed administrator, an activity that he carried out until his death. In 1913, due to Burkhard's initiatives, the first castle festival took place in the secured ruins. He gave lectures on his work and advertised the preservation of the building and Eppstein in general.

During the security work, the architect also acted as an archaeologist based on the finds in various areas of the castle. Among the areas examined included the Long Barn , Bettelbub , the castle well, the eastern façade of the palace and the staircase to the bower . During this time, the first comprehensive plan of the entire castle complex was created.
