Franz Eduard Suess

Franz Eduard Suess (also: Franz Eduard Sueß ; * October 7, 1867 , in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; † January 25, 1941 ibid) was an Austrian geologist . He was the son of Eduard Suess . His son was the physical chemist and nuclear physicist Hans E. Suess (1909-1993).

Suess was a professor at the Technical University in Prague from 1908 to 1910 and professor at the University of Vienna from 1911 to 1938 . As a full member of the Academy of Sciences in Vienna , he was deleted in 1940 by a decree of the Reich Minister of Education .

His research concerned crystalline basement mountains, in particular the Bohemian mass . He also did research in the field of hydrogeology and moldavites .

Suess introduced the term tektite into the scientific literature.

The asteroid (12002) Suess was named after him.
