Franz Foetterle

Franz Foetterle (born February 2, 1823 in Mramotitz , Moravia , † September 5, 1876 in Vienna ) was an Austrian geologist .

Foetterle studied at the Bergakademie Schemnitz and became a mining intern in Gmunden in 1847 . From 1849 until his death in 1876 he worked at the Imperial and Royal Geological Institute in Vienna. He became Bergrat there in 1856, first chief geologist in 1867 and vice director under Franz von Hauer in 1873 . Foetterle was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery .

Foetterle mainly dealt with the geological mapping of the Austrian Empire and studies on economically usable minerals.
