Franz Fuchs (born October 19, 1870 in Vienna , † July 20, 1925 in Hofgastein ) was an Austrian photographer .

Franz Fuchs learned the profession of photographer and married Aloisia Eder, the daughter of a hop trader, in St. Wolfgang in 1894 . Fuchs settled in the Gastein Valley at the beginning of the 20th century . He founded a photo studio in Hofgastein and documented, probably as a commissioned work, the construction of the north ramp of the Tauern Railway .

With a plate camera , he recorded the progress of construction on the railway and the working conditions of the people involved in its creation. His photographs document the progress of building construction such as bridges, viaducts and station buildings and the changes in the landscape of the Gastein Valley as a result of the railway construction. Most active from around 1903 to 1905, he made around 200 photographs, of which he published around 70 as postcards. Furthermore, he published mainly tourist-interesting motifs from the Gastein Valley as postcards. He experimented with the technique of multiple exposure by staging himself several times in photographs.

A bankruptcy petition is known from 1913; Fuchs also served as a soldier in the First World War . The Fuchs couple had three daughters. In addition to his work as a photographer, Fuchs was an active amateur actor for the Hofgastein theater group. He died on July 20, 1925 of complications from a liver disease.

Some prints of Fuchs' photographs are now in the possession of the Technical Museum in Vienna.
