Georg Untergaßmair

Georg Untergaßmair (born August 11, 1941 in Olang ) is a South Tyrolean Augustinian canon , former provost and university professor .

Life

Franz Untergaßmair occurred in 1959 in the Augustinian Canons Neustift , took the religious name of Georg and became in 1966 Brixen Cathedral for priests ordained.

In 1972 Untergaßmair received his doctorate in biblical studies from the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . Until his habilitation in 1978 he was an assistant at the theological faculty in Paderborn . Subsequently, Untergaßmair took on various teaching positions until he was appointed full professor (C 4) for the department of Catholic theology at the University of Osnabrück in 1983 . There he often took over the office of dean of his department. He also taught at the University of Vechta .

On May 19, 2005 Untergaßmair was elected 16th Lateranen abbot and 57th provost of Neustift Abbey. Bishop Wilhelm Egger consecrated his colleague as abbot on June 18th. In 2015 he handed over the management of the monastery, and Eduard Fischnaller was elected as his successor .

Honors

In 2011 Untergaßmair received the Decoration of Honor of the State of Tyrol .
