Franz Glaserer

Franz Glaserer (born November 27, 1904 in Vienna ; † January 7, 1983 ibid) was an Austrian politician , member of the Viennese state parliament and city councilor in Vienna.

Life

Glaserer learned the profession of typesetter and joined the Social Democrats in 1918. He took on various functions in the Socialist Workers 'Youth and in the Social Democratic Workers' Party (SDAP), was a shop steward for the party and acquired political knowledge in the field of education. After the SDAP was banned in 1934, Glaserer joined the illegal Revolutionary Socialists and was arrested twice for his illegal activities. In 1940 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and returned from American captivity in 1946.

Glaserer was subsequently elected district chairman of the SPÖ Penzing , where he held this position until 1971. Between 1949 and 1969 he was a member of the Vienna City Council and a member of the Vienna State Parliament. In addition, between 1954 and 1968 he was the official city councilor for housing, settlement and allotment gardens. After his death Glaserer was buried in the Baumgartner Friedhof (group L3, number 50), the community building erected between 1963 and 1966 at Hackinger Straße 30-36, was renamed Franz-Glaserer-Hof in his honor .
