Franz Glaubacker

Franz Glaubacker (born June 20, 1896 in Sarajevo , † 1974 in Linz ) was an Upper Austrian portrait painter and is one of the representatives of late impressionism .

Live and act

Glaubacker was born the son of an Austrian railway official and spent his childhood following his father's transfer to Linz in the Upper Austrian capital, where he completed elementary and community school as well as a model carpentry training.

In 1911 he was gilder - apprentice with his uncle in Regensburg , was in 1915 for military service during Linzerhaus Regiment moved in and returned from the Russian front in 1916 severely wounded as a disabled veteran back.

Until 1919 he worked again as an assistant barrel painter in the gilding plant in Regensburg and since he felt called to be a painter, he successfully completed the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Carl Johann Becker-Gundahl .

Art trips, which rounded off his studies, took him through Germany, Holland and Italy. From 1925 he worked as a freelance artist in Linz, portraying a number of personalities and numerous, mostly Linz private individuals, made a name for himself as a documenter of the Altlinzer scene and worked for the Upper Austrian Art Association and from the mid-1950s as a founding member of the Mühlviertler Artist guild with. He participated in the respective exhibitions for more than thirty years. He was one of the most original figures on the Linz art scene since the interwar period.

In 1997 the Mühlviertel artists' guild showed a memorial exhibition in their gallery in the Landeskulturzentrum Ursulinenhof, for which a documentary structured catalog created by his son Herbert was published.

His picture Hitler on the balcony of the Linz town hall became well known and reproduced hundreds of times . On the occasion of Linz 09 (Linz as the Führer’s cultural capital, art and National Socialism in Linz and Upper Austria), works by Franz Glaubacker were also shown in the exhibition in the Castle Museum .
