Franz Hofer (politician, 1874)

Franz Hofer (born October 24, 1874 in Vienna , † July 9, 1933 in Bad Ischl , Upper Austria ) was an Austrian high school teacher and politician .

Life

After graduating from high school, Hofer studied theology and philosophy in Innsbruck and received his doctorate in philosophy in 1903. In 1908 he passed the teaching examination in geography and history and then taught at secondary schools in Vienna and Freistadt . There he became director of the grammar school in 1922. In 1930 he was appointed state school inspector for secondary schools in Upper Austria, and in 1931 he was appointed court councilor. Immediately after the First World War , Hofer made an outstanding contribution to drawing the border along the Malsch River from Czechoslovakia .

Since 1925 he was an honorary member of the Catholic student union KÖHV Rugia Vienna.

Hofer's school activity was interrupted twice by his political activities, since between 1909 and 1915 he was a member of the Salzburg Landtag and from 1925 to 1930 he was a member of the Austrian National Council . In the National Council, he worked in several committees, and he made special contributions to the Small Pensioners Act. Hofer is said to have been by far the most brilliant speaker among the Christian Socialists in Upper Austria . In 1921 he was given the title of "Honorary Bishop", and in 1930 he was made an honorary citizen of Freistadt.
