Franz Hoffmann (composer)

Franz Hoffmann (born January 6, 1872 in Pilsen ; † 1946 ) was an Austrian military bandmaster and composer .

Life

Franz Hoffmann received his first music lessons on the violin at the age of eight . After attending secondary school, he joined the military music of the 34th Infantry Regiment and was also drum major there . From 1895 he studied at the Vienna Conservatory before he worked as a musician with Infantry Regiment No. 68 and the 3rd Käiserjäger Regiment . From 1901 to 1918 Hoffmann was Kapellmeister of the Military Music of the Hungarian Infantry Regiment No. 5 in Erlau .

Works

Hoffmann probably created over 160 compositions, of which only a small part is known today. In the interwar period he was in contact with Johann Kliment, whose music publishing house published some of his works.
