Franz Jeglitsch (born August 24, 1934 in Klagenfurt ; † July 29, 2016 ) was an Austrian materials scientist , university professor and politician ( ÖVP ). From 1987 to 1991 he was rector of the Montanuniversität Leoben and from 1991 to 2000 member of the state parliament in Styria .

Life

Franz Jeglitsch studied metallurgy at the Montanist Hochschule in Leoben, graduating with honors in 1958. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Metallurgy and Materials Testing, followed by his dissertation in 1963 and his habilitation in 1968 . In 1973 he was appointed associate professor for metallography and metallurgical working processes. From 1978 to 1981 he was the scientific and technical director and managing director of the Seibersdorf Research Center . In 1980 he was appointed full professor at the Institute for Technology and Metallurgy of Non-Ferrous Metals, in 1982 he moved to the Institute for Metallurgy and Materials Testing, which he headed until his retirement in 2002.

From 1987 to 1991 he was elected rector of the Montanuniversität Leoben . During his rectorate, the courses applied geosciences and industrial environmental protection, waste disposal technology and recycling were established and the Peter Tunner building was redesigned. In his scientific work he dealt among other things with high-temperature microscopy and optical contrast methods.

In the XII. and XIII. In the legislative period he was a member of the Styrian Landtag for the ÖVP . In this role he was responsible for research and the industrial region of Upper Styria, among other things, and in 1999 he was involved in founding the Materials Center Leoben .

Franz Jeglitsch died on July 29, 2016 at the age of 81.
