Franz Josef Goertz

Franz Josef Görtz (born July 18, 1947 in Aachen ; † December 25, 2017 ) was a German journalist , editor and writer .

Life

Franz Josef Görtz completed his school days in Aachen in November 1966 with the Abitur at the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium . This was followed by a degree in German and philosophy, mathematics and physics. In 1977 Görtz completed his doctorate with Günter Grass on the pathogenesis of a brand image. The literary criticism d. Mass media 1959-1969; a study using data processing methods (published by Anton Hain Verlag in Meisenheim 1978, 383 pages) at RWTH Aachen University . This was followed by a traineeship at Aachener Nachrichten (1968–1970) as well as an assistant to the head of the Cusanuswerk Bonn (1977–1979), Karl Delahaye (director: 1972–1981).

Since 1980 Görtz was employed by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as a literary editor and in this position one of the closest collaborators of Marcel Reich-Ranicki . Görtz was also editor of the FAZ magazine, publisher of the works of Erich Kästner and Friedrich Dürrenmatt and had several visiting professorships in the USA, at Washington University in St. Louis / Missouri and at Brigham Young University in Provo / Utah.

In addition, Görtz was a member of the jury of the German Audiobook Prize .
